August 31, 2026

Dear Carmel Central School District Community,

In just two days, on Wednesday, September 2, our schools will once again fill with the energy, curiosity, and promise of our students. The first day of school is more than a date on the calendar; it is a powerful new beginning for every child, every family, and every member of our Carmel Central School District team.

We recognize that the start of a new school year can bring unexpected challenges, particularly as new systems and routines are put into practice. While we have worked carefully to prepare, there may be times when something does not work exactly as intended. When that occurs, please know that we will be listening, responding, and working diligently to fine-tune our processes. Our goal is to learn from the opening days and weeks, make necessary adjustments, and continue moving as close as possible to the ideal experience for every student and family

As we begin the new school year, we also ask for your patience and understanding as students, families, and staff adjust to new schedules, routines, and transportation routes across the district. These changes were thoughtfully made to enhance the school experience for our students and to support safe, effective, and engaging learning environments.

This school year, let us begin with optimism and purpose. Let us continue to build schools where kindness is visible, achievement is encouraged, differences are respected, and every student understands that they are an important part of our Carmel community. The collective work of our families, educators, support staff, administrators, Board of Education members, and community partners makes a difference in the lives of our children each day.

To our students: We cannot wait to welcome you back. Bring your ideas, your talents, your questions, and your excitement for what is ahead. This is your school community, and we are ready to help you make 2026-27 a year of growth, connection, and accomplishment.

To our families: Thank you for the trust you place in us. Your partnership is essential, and we look forward to working closely with you throughout the year. Your patience, communication, and support during the opening weeks will help us ensure a smooth and successful start for all students.

To our faculty and staff: Thank you for the dedication, preparation, and care you bring to this important work. Your commitment ensures that our students begin the year with confidence and profound hope for what lies ahead.

As we prepare to open our doors, I am filled with gratitude and excitement for the year ahead. I wish all members of the Carmel Central School District community a safe, successful, and inspiring start to the 2026–2027 school year.

Sincerely,

Michael Plotkin
Superintendent of Schools
